Dan Engelke, an EYC member and retired professor from Purdue University, has installed a 20+ piece kinetic sculpture on the shore and in the water of Tennison Bay (located at the northwest end of Peninsula State Park, off of Shore Road, near the Eagle Bluff lighthouse). Entitled “Wood Wind”, each piece is lit at night by attached solar-powered LED lights. Engelke’s work has been described as resembling a regatta, with the tall, narrow sculptures placed progressively further apart as they go toward the horizon.
The artist chose Tennison Bay due to the repetition of the pattern of land and water in the view toward the Strawberry Islands. “Wood Wind” is the sixth in a series of water based scuptural installations displayed thoughout the Midwest. Park visitors may receive a closer viewing of the anchored sculptures by kayak and other small water craft. The sculptures will be in place at Tennison Bay until August 28th.
On August 14th at the Peninsula Art School, there will be an artist panel discussion at 5:00 pm, followed by a reception from 6:00-8:00 pm.
