The Ephraim Yacht Club is accepting applications for the following positions for the 2025 summer season. If interested, please send your resume, including sailing and powerboat experience, references, date of birth, current year in school, available dates for work, and contact information to: Lisa Gifford at [email protected].
Sailing Instructor duties include teaching sailing lessons, running races, working dock and mentoring of dock assistants and students. Other duties include general clubhouse maintenance/cleaning, member assistance, and equipment care and maintenance.
Applicants should be small boat sailors with a solid sailing resume, instruction and racing experience favorable. Instructors are required to have US Sailing Level I Instructor certification or higher level US Sailing certification, current CPR/First Aid AED, and SafeSport certifications prior to employment. Sailing Instructors should expect to work approximately 35 to 40 hours per week. Applicants must be have reached their 16th birthday by December 31st, 2025.
Due to ongoing renovations at the Village Hall, we are sad to announce that this event will not be happening this year, but we are quite certain the EYC NYE Gathering in 2025 will make up for it!

Summer’s end is bittersweet. This weekend marks the end of Summer and the time when we prepare the EYC for it’s long winter sleep. However, this year we will be bringing back our New Year’s eve social!
While we are all forlorn to bid adieu to the summer of 2024 and all the wonderful sailing and fellowship that occurred, we must all look towards our winter activities and the first one being closing up the Clubhouse for the winter. For those EYC members in Door County during the Labor Day week, please come on down to the dock for our fall close-up day on Saturday, August 31st. We will start at 9:00 a.m. and we will have refreshments for the participants.
Skip Heidler is coordinating an EYC NYE open house at the Village Hall. Stay tuned for details and save the date!
Bridge will continue through September and follows the following schedule: Mondays – 1:00 – 3:00/3:30 Open play, Tuesdays – 4:30 – 6:30, Couples (bring a partner) and Thursdays – 9:30 – 11:30/Noon – Open Play. Last day of bridge will be September 30th.

Good news! Since the EYC annual meeting is being held on Friday afternoon, for the first time in many years, Scot racers will have an opportunity to race one more time this summer. Come on down Saturday morning and race one last time in our EYC weekly series. Skippers meeting will be held at 9 a.m. and racing starts at 10:00 a.m.
Please join us on Saturday, August 10th from 6:00 pm-8:00 p.m. for the Commodore’s Cocktail party at beautiful Hidden Acres Farm in Sister Bay. Join us for our end of season social and EYC awards announcements. All ages welcome! Please bring an appetizer to share. Wine, Beer, soft drinks and water provided.

Last Saturday, the EYC held the 119th Ephraim Regatta . We had a wonderful weekend for the Ephraim Regatta. We kicked off with our Friday night Welcome party hosted by Nancy Claypool and Barb Zeigler. Thanks so much for creating a welcoming atmosphere for all the sailors that traveled to participate. Additionally, we would like to thank all the EYC members that provided appetizers/ desserts for the event.
We would like to give a round of applause to our Race committee: Woody Heidler and Emily Heidler, Regatta Chairs, John Peterson, PRO, Fred Horwitz, Chief Judge, Bob Aring, Judge, John Archibald, Committee Boat/Judge, Mike Lisle, Judges Boat Dreiver, Matt Winnacker, Committee Boat Driver, Lisa Gifford, Laura O’Rourke and Deanna Peterson Committee Boat, Skip Heidler and Wally Waleffe, Markset Boat, Cain Goettleman, Henry Tasker, Frances Depke and Cameron Reynolds, Leeward Mark Set, Peyton Reynolds, Safety Boat, Carol Fiedler, Registration. A special thank you to Liz Dischner for coordinating the lunches and food, Dennis Miller for his help with boat launching, Cain Goettleman and FLS Banners, Isak and Kelly Petersen for being our sherpas and helping with anything we needed and to the EYC staff.
The Regatta party was great night to chat about the race and get to know our traveling racers. Hats off to Emily Heidler for organizing such a fantastic event. A big thank you to the Ephraim Historical Foundation for allowing the use of the Olga Dana Green for the site of our party. Thanks to Great Lakes BBQ for catering the event, JR Jarosh and Edgewood Orchard Gallery for providing the table and chairs, Pete and Laura Moegenburg,food pickup, Jeanne and Ted Papenthien, setup, Carol Fiedler and Marta Fonseca, greeters, Andrew and Lisa Gifford, bartenders and to the O’Rourkes, the Sauters, the Spones and Bob Richter for their extra hands during the evening.
For this year’s Regatta, we had 24 boats participating from 9 different clubs! While Saturday’s winds allowed the completion of only one race, the winds on Sunday blew strong enough for 3 races. The winners of the 119th Regatta were skipper Mark Johnson and crew (none name on ) with the Neenah Nodaway Yacht Club. 2nd place went to skipper Michael Faugust and crewJennifer Ikeda, with the EYC. 3rd Place went to skipper Bruce Kitchen and crew Lynn Kitchen with Cowan Lake Sailing Association. Fourth place went to skipper Dave Gorwitz and crew Mike Ekberg with Lake Monona Sailing club. 5th place went to skipper Kevin Kunz and crew Kendall Kunz with the Lafayette Sailing Club.
We would like to recognize the Capital Lake Sailing Association and the club for traveling all the way from Jefferson City, Missouri with 4 four boats.
This week will be our last Junior Activity of the summer. We will be returning to the Red Putter for a fun night of putt putt. Please pick up and drop off at the Red Putter, 6:30p.m.-7:30p.m.. Ages 8 to 17 years are welcome. Younger children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
This Friday will be the last EYC Pop-up shop on the dock. Come on down to purchase EYC Merchandise from 9:00 a.m.-1:00p.m. Grab your birthday and holiday gifts now! We have hats, t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, wine tumblers and more!

John Stollenwerk is looking for crew for his 49ft sailboat, Keno, on his trip to the North Channel from 8/19-8/28. Sailing experience a must, will pay $75 a day and fly the crew back home. Please contact John at 262-388-2008 or [email protected]
The Ephraim Women’s Regatta will take place on Thursday, August 1st at 6:00 p.m. The Women’s Regatta is limited to female competitors including crew. This regatta is open to EYC members and the boat draw for EYC boats will be at 5:00 p.m. Please arrive early if you are looking for a skipper or crew.
Friday, August 2nd is the 119th Ephraim Regatta Welcome Party. This regatta is EYC’s signature event of the season. We are asking all fleet members, sailors, volunteers, and interested club members to support this event. As we have historically done, please bring an appetizer down to the club no later than 5:30 p.m. on Friday August 2nd. We will have many sailors who have traveled long distances and we’d like to show them our EYC hospitality by providing some light fare the night before the regatta. Barb Ziegler is the Co-Chair of this event along with Nancy Claypool, Fleet Captain. Woody Heidler is the Regatta Chair. Thank you for your support of the 119th Ephraim Regatta. Sailors and volunteers are welcome to attend.

Ephraim Regatta Crew needed
Racing starts on Saturday, August 3rd at 11 a.m. Several people have indicated that they may be available to crew this weekend for the Ephraim Regatta. If you need crew, please contact Nancy Claypool, [email protected] to see who may still be available.
Woody is looking for anyone who would like to volunteer to help on markset boats for the Ephraim regatta. Tasks would include helping pull anchors and set marks. – please contact Woody at [email protected].
Ephraim Regatta Party
The Regatta Party will be held Saturday evening at Olga Dana Green Park beginning at 6:00 p.m. The regatta party is free for kids under the age of 5, $10 for kids ages 6-11 and $20 for 12 and over. All sailors, guests and members are welcome to join the festivities. Share racing stories while enjoying a meal by Great Lakes BBQ. Racing continues on Sunday, August 5th.

EYC merchandise will be for sale on Friday on the dock from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We have the 119th Regatta Shirts in both Long Sleeve UV and Short SleeveT-shirts. Come on down and take a look at our new merchandise for this year. We also have mugs, wine tumblers, totes, t-shirts, hats and more! We will also have special regatta pop-up shop on Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Last Saturday, the EYC held their annual family regatta. We had four boats participating! After three races, the winners were Steve Sauter and crew Vivi Sauter. 2nd place went to the Knight family boat with skipper Will Knight and crew Sara and Henry Knight. 3rd Place went to the Stollenwerk family boat, with skipper Phil Stollenwerk and crew Andrea, Olivia and Eloise. Fourth place went to the Hoag/Travnicek boat with skipper Max Travnicek and crew Miles Travnicek, and Calvin and Penelope Hoag.
