Our Staff

The Ephraim Yacht Club employs a staff of experienced and enthusiastic sailors. All have received US Sailing Level 1 certification. Many of the Senior staff have also received Level 2 certification. All staff is Red Cross CPR and First Aid certified. Most of our staff have “grown-up” at the EYC and learned to sail on Eagle Harbor. Many of the Senior staff sail for their college teams and compete during the school year. They all look forward to sharing their love of sailing with the students.

Penelope Whiteside is a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying Chemical Engineering. She spends her school year skippering for the Wisco Sailing Team where she serves on the board as Practice Captain. This past semester, Penelope worked in a plastic research and development lab in Cincinnati with projects that focused on recyclability and durability. She grew up sailing at the EYC; this summer will make her sixth year on staff. She is a Level 2 US Sailing Certified Instructor, whose favorite part about teaching sailing is inspiring a love of this awesome life-long sport! You'll always find Penelope on the dock for the evening 420 races looking for a crew, so don't be afraid to reach out.

Will is from Winnetka, IL, and will be a sophomore at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where he is studying biology. When he isn’t studying, will enjoys spending time with friends and playing hockey for the club hockey team at U of I. This will be Will’s fifth summer working at EYC, and he has been sailing in Ephraim since he was seven! Will has his US Sailing Level 2 Certification. His favorite racing memory was competing in the Rich Hall Junior Regatta when he was younger, and his favorite junior activity is capture the flag. Will can’t wait for another summer in Door County, and is excited to see everyone down at the dock!

Charlie is just finishing his freshman year at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he is studying Nuclear Engineering. Charlie is a US Sailing level 3 certified instructor, and this is his 3rd summer working at the EYC. Charlie grew up boating on the waters of Eagle Harbor. His favorite EYC memory sailing memory is playing capture the flag on donut day, and his favorite junior activity is mini golf at the red putter.

Max is a junior at Florida State University studying mechanical engineering. When not studying or sailing, Max also works as a lifeguard on the beach in New Smyrna Beach FL and loves surfing and skiing. He grew up taking lessons at the EYC and this will be his fourth year on staff. He is a level 3 US sailing Certified instructor and can’t wait to see everyone out on the water this summer, especially on donut day!

She does track and field, she is also part of clubs such as Project 180, Peer Leaders and National Honors Society. She has her level 1 and 2 certifications to teach from US sailing 2. Her favorite racing memory is winning the family reggata with her dad. Her favorite junior activity is mini golf at the red putter.

His favorite activities are donut day and the Water Olympics. His favorite memory from his time at the EYC is the time that he got first place in the Junior Regatta.

Ellie is a rising sophomore majoring in neuroscience at Colorado College. I love photography and ceramics, and I am on the cross country and track team. I started sailing at the EYC, and this is my second summer working as an instructor. I love watermelon days, but especially capture the flag. I can’t wait for this summer!
