Coffee & Conversation with Tony Beadell
August 22 at Write On
Mark your calendars for a special Saturday morning gathering! On August 22 from 10:00–11:30 a.m., join us at Write On, Door County (4210 Juddville Rd., Fish Creek) for coffee and conversation with EYC member Tony Beadell, author of In Pursuit of Truth in Art, Antiques, and Antiquities. Tony will share insights from his book and decades of collecting experience in a relaxed, informal setting.
About the book:
Grounded in real-life stories, In Pursuit of Truth pulls back the curtain on the hidden world of art, antiques, and antiquities. With candor, wit, and decades of first-hand experience, the author exposes the deceit, dishonesty, and fabrications that have shaped the market for centuries. From Manhattan’s glittering auction houses to the shadowy networks of looted antiquities, readers are taken inside the intrigues of collecting: why some works of conceptual art command obscene prices, how illicit money flows distort the market, and why the museums and critics we trust are not always as reliable as they appear. Along the way you’ll encounter sovereign wealth heists, grave-robbed treasures, and the blind eyes of even the world’s most prestigious institutions.
About the author:
Anthony Beadell is founder, president, and senior portifolio manager at Milwaukee-based A.D. Beadell Investment Counsel, and a prolific collector since childhood. He is focused today on three major themes: representational painting, Nordic antiques/folk art, and 19th century glass paperweights and other objects. He is a major collector of glass portraits–those that were first introduced by the Romans, later reintroduced by the 19th century Italians, and today, fashioned by a number of talented studio glass artists. He has written articles and lectured on his collections. He has studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the Art Students League of New York.
We hope to see many EYC friends there for good coffee, good questions, and good conversation. See you on the dock—and at Write On!
