The EYC kicks into a higher gear this week with the beginning of racing, and…parties!

The EYC’s OPTIMIST JUNE SERIES RACES kick off on the afternoon of Saturday, June 15.  The drawing for EYC juniors to use an EYC-owned Optimist is at 1:00 PM and the first race is scheduled for 2:00 P.M.  Optimist races also take place on Sunday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  For details see www.eyc.org/racing

The FYR BAL FAMILY COOKOUT begins at 6:00 PM on Saturday, June 15.   Members and guests of all ages are invited.  There is no charge for this event.  Your hosts and chefs will be the Latreille, Richter and O’Rourke families, who will provide grilled meats; members should bring their own side dishes and beverages.  Plan to spend the evening at the EYC to watch the Fyr Bal bonfires and fireworks!

LASER AND 420 RACES begin on the afternoon of Sunday, June 16.  The drawing for EYC members to use an EYC-owned Laser or 420 is at 1:00 PM and the first race is scheduled for 2:00 PM.  Laser and 420 races also take place on Friday evenings.  For details see www.eyc.org/racing

The DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR SESSION B SAILING LESSONS is noon on Sunday, June 16.  Session B lessons run from June 17 through June 28.  For more information about EYC sailing lessons, and to register, go to www.eyc.org/lessons

The EYC’S OPEN HOURS ARE 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM seven days a week (and later on some weeknights when races are taking place).  However, the EYC will be open but not staffed on the afternoons of June 17, 18, 19 and 20 because the entire staff will be undergoing training.  If you need assistance from the staff, please stop by between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM on those days.

The first FIRST MATES COFFEE begins at 9:00 AM on Monday, June 17.  If you are female and an EYC member, then you are a First Mate!  Please attend to catch up with your friends and to plan the summer’s events.  If you cannot attend but still want to help with events, contact first First Mate Carole Kraemer [email protected]

LADIES BUNCO begins at 7:00 PM on Monday, June 17.  Whatever goes on in there, it always sounds like it is a lot of fun.

JUNIOR ACTIVITIES begin Wednesday, June 19 with  a hike on the Eagle Trail in Peninsula State Park, followed by wood glider assembly and flying the gliders (not from the tower itself, sorry), and s’mores.  Drop off at 5:30 P.M. at the Peninsula State Park Eagle Terrace parking area.  Bring $6.00 per junior to cover the cost of glider and food.  Wear closed toed shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather and a moderately difficult 2-mike hike; water bottle optional.   Pick up at Eagle Terrace promptly at 8:00 P.M.  A Wisconsin state parks vehicle pass is required to park, but not merely to drop off and pick up.  This Junior Activity is open to juniors ages 8-13.  Parents are welcome and encouraged to participate.  Questions?  Contact event leader Jeanne Papenthien: [email protected]

TEEN ACTIVITIES begin Thursday, June 20 with bowling and pizza at the Sister Bay Bowl.  Drop off at the Bowl at 6:30 PM and pick up at 8:30 PM sharp.  Cost is $10 cash per teen — please bring it with you. You must wear socks for bowling.  Sign up at EYC.  All teen activities participants must have completed 8th grade. Please come with ideas for future Teen Activities. Questions, comments or suggestions?  Contact Teen Activities coordinator Heather Andersen [email protected] 847-420-3978.

The EYC’s free OPENING SOCIAL is at 6:00 PM on Saturday, June 22 at the EYC, rain or shine.  The EYC will provide wine, beer and soft drinks.  Members are asked to bring an appetizer to share.  As a fundraiser, we will be auctioning off the naming rights to the EYC’s newest Laser, so bring your checkbook and your most creative boat name!  This event is open to EYC members and guests ages 18 and up, and to all EYC staff and their spouses.  EYC members are particularly encouraged to bring guests who might be interested in EYC membership.  Sorry, no dogs at this event.
