Ready, Set, Sail! Build Your Sailing Skills Through Racing at EYC

One of the best ways to become a better sailor is simple: go racing!

At EYC, racing has always been about more than crossing the finish line first. It’s where sailors learn to read the wind, make decisions, improve boat handling, understand strategy, and gain confidence. Every start, tack, mark rounding, and finish is an opportunity to grow.

For our junior sailors, racing helps bring everything learned in lessons together. Suddenly, sail trim, steering, communication, wind shifts, and boat control all click into place. Whether you’re brand new to racing or ready for more competition, getting on the starting line is one of the fastest (and most fun!) ways to improve.

This summer, we’re excited to bring back a familiar EYC tradition: Monday afternoon Opti Racing! Many longtime members remember Monday afternoons filled with young sailors on the water, and we hope returning to this time will encourage even more kids to give racing a try. It’s a great opportunity to build skills, make friends, and experience the fun of sailing in a new way.
