Year End Reflection
As the year comes to an end, we contemplate on how the EYC enriches our lives. For some of us, it is the robust sailing lesson program, for others the races and regattas and for many, it is the social aspect of lifelong friendships made at the club. One thing is for certain, we all hold EYC near and dear to our hearts. Now is a great time to give back to the club that means so much to us!

Donation Appeal: 420 Fleet Donation Match in Memory of Brian Chase
In honor of Brian Chase (Director 1984-1986), three generous anonymous donors have offered to match every gift, dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000 in total. The money raised will be used to purchase new sails, lines and hiking straps in order to elevate our fleet of 18 – 420’s. If the EYC can enhance the 420 fleet, the EYC will be eligible and hopes to host an annual regatta for high school sailing teams. The success of the Gibraltar Sailing Team has produced competitive sailors and as the program grows, more racing quality boats are needed. The EYC appreciates any gift bestowed upon us no matter the size.

The Principal Race Officer
The Principal Race Officer (PRO) is a responsible individual with strong leadership and communication skills who is responsible for club race management. PRO is one of three EYC Staff leadership positions. The PRO’s primary responsibility is to train the EYC staff in race management and to ensure that club races are planned and executed properly. The PRO also serves as the key staff resource for the Race and Regatta Chair, is responsible for maintaining the inventory and care of the club’s race equipment, monitors race management by collecting feedback from other staff members and race participants, and ensures that racing results have been recorded properly in scoring software. The PRO should demonstrate powerboat handling proficiency and should possess small sailboat racing knowledge and experience. The ideal candidate should possess a good working knowledge of the 2021-2024 Racing Rules of Sailing, including protest procedures. An undeniable enthusiasm for sailboat racing is desired.
SAILING INSTRUCTOR
Sailing Instructor duties include teaching EYC’s sailing lessons, running races, mentoring dock assistants and students, and working dock. Other duties include general clubhouse duties, member assistance, and equipment care and maintenance.
Applicants should be experienced small boat sailors with a solid sailing resume, including instruction and racing. Instructors are required to have US Sailing Level I or higher certification, and current CPR /First Aid AED and SafeSport certificates. Applicants who are EYC members should have received their Skipper’s License. Applicants who have not been through the EYC junior program should have completed an equivalent level of instruction in another sailing program. Applicants should be on course to complete their sophomore year of high school before starting work at the EYC and must have a birth date prior to January 1st, 2007.
Note: We no longer have the designation of Senior or Junior Sailing Instructors. This position can be full time or part time.
DOCK ASSISTANT
Dock Assistant duties include keeping the dock and clubhouse facilities clean and properly equipped, assisting members, able to properly use equipment to assist in launching and storing boats and associated equipment. Qualified individuals may support races. Dock assistants are required to have current CPR /First Aid certificates prior to employment.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player who can contribute to a fun, safe, and productive environment. Candidates must be available to work from Monday, June 13 through Saturday August 8 (unless applying for half summer). Availability to work after August 6 is helpful but not required.
The position is part time, 15 – 20 hours per week on average. To apply for the dock assistant position, you must have been born prior to January 1, 2006 and have good knowledge about sailing and sailing equipment. Persons under the age of 16 are required to have a WI child labor form, which may be completed at the Wisconsin office located at the Gibraltar High School.
New Year’s Eve
Joani Lewis and Chuck Meade would like to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year! As much as they would love to celebrate with all of you in person, they will not be hosting their New Year’s Eve Party this year. Hoping to “Cheers” in person in 2022!
