11th Annual EYC Aaron R. Moore Sailing Scholarship Fundraiser
The EYC is saddened by the passing of longtime member, Ron Litterst on October 29, 2023. Ron and his family have been actively involved with the EYC for many years. Most recently Ron and his wife, Lois chaired and participated in couples bridge group at the EYC. We express our sincere condolences to Ron’s family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held in Door County next summer.
Ron’s complete obituary can be found https://www.pjstar.com/obituaries/pils0618854
The EYC offers their most sincere condolences to Guy Bush’s family and friends. Guy L. Bush, a dedicated life member of the Ephraim Yacht Club since the 1970s and former commodore (1983-1984), passed away on August 2, 2023. Guy’s love for sailing was truly exceptional, and he cherished his time on the water. For many years, he sailed the Flying Scot #551, affectionately known as “Whisper,” which later became “Bushfly” when he donated it to the EYC. Sailing was one of his favorite pastimes, and he was able to share this passion with his family.
The Ephraim Yacht Club held a special place in Guy’s heart, not only as a place for his sailing adventures but also as a source of lasting friendships. Over the years, the EYC introduced Guy and his family to a wonderful community of lifelong friends who continue to hold a special place in the hearts of his children.
His complete obituary can be found here. Guy’s legacy, both as a sailor and a friend, will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
This year our awesome staff worked with the Equipment, Dock and Clubhouse chairs over the last few weeks to clean-up and ready our equipment, dock and clubhouse for the off season. The EYC is ready for its’ long winter rest. Mark your calendars for May 25th, 2024 to come down to the dock and help open for the 2024 Summer Season.
.
The EYC would like to recognize Susanna Mortarra and Calvin Hoag as the recipients of the 2023 Volunteer of the Year and the 2023 Sportsmanship Award. These two individuals are always part of the action at the EYC. Susanna creates and coordinates activities for our EYC youth members for this summer and the last several summers. On Wednesday nights, Susanna would ensure that our junior members had a fun night at the dock or around Ephraim. Calvin could be seen on the dock and at the clubhouse getting ready to go sailing, helping out with other sailors. His can do attitude and friendly demeanor made certain that the dock was a welcoming place
Congratulations to you both!!
We will see everyone on the dock next season!

The EYC is searching for volunteers for the Race Committee. Sailing experience is not necessary just a willingness to learn and some strong arms! Please reach out to Woody Heidler [email protected] for more information.
We would love to give a big shout out to Debbie Brightbill & Karen Bierman, who stepped up once again to chair the potluck earlier this month. They pulled together a full team of volunteers without a lot of notice and made this wonderful event happen. Thanks to all those that helped and came out to enjoy the friendship and food.
