This Week at the EYC July 11-17
In addition to the usual high-summer activities of lessons, racing, bridge, yoga, ping-pong, bunco, and swimming and sunning on the pier, here’s what’s happening at the EYC this week:
The second FIRST MATES COFFEE will be at 9:30 AM on Monday, July 11. If you are a woman and an EYC member, then you are a First Mate! Bring your calendar. Questions? Contact First First Mate Nancy Pillat (920) 854-4310.
EYC YOUNG EXPLORERS will meet at the Ephraim beach on Tuesday, July 12 from 10:00 AM to noon. Sandcastles will be built, perhaps also destroyed in a Godzilla-like manner. Explorers are EYC youths who have not yet finished first grade. Questions? Contact Heather Anderson (847) 420-3978.
The WEDNESDAY JUNIOR ACTIVITY July 13 is the annual Barn Party at Paul and Nancy Pillat’s home, 2903 Wilder Lane, Ephraim. Parents, please drop off your juniors at 6:00 PM and pick them up at 8:00 PM, both at the Pillat’s. Volleyball, limbo and other games will occur. Snacks and drinks will be provided but not dinner. Sign up on the signup sheet posted at the EYC. EYC Juniors are those who have completed first grade.
The Junior Activity visit to the American Folklore Theater which was previously scheduled for Wednesday, July 13 has been rescheduled for Wednesday, July 27. A new sign up sheet for the July 27 AFT visit will be posted at the EYC during the week prior to that event.
The THURSDAY TEEN ACTIVITY July 14 will be an evening sail on two fabulous boats owned by John Peterson and Christine Bridenhagen. The destination will depend on conditions…Little Sister Bay, Horseshoe Island or Nicolet Bay. Wear appropriate clothing for an evening big water sail. Bring CLOSE TOED SHOES AND PFD; you will not be allowed to sail without them. Towel optional. Arrive at Yacht Works Marina in Sister Bay at 4:30pm; we will return to Yacht Works for pickup at 8:00 PM. Bring a dessert to share and your own drinks. Hot dogs, chips and watermelon will be provided. Remember, to take part in Teen activities you must have completed 8th grade. Sign up at the EYC. Space is limited. Questions? Contact Heather Andersen (847) 420-3978.
Friday July 15 is MEN’S NIGHT ON THE PIER. This is the second year of this event, which was a lot of fun last year. EYC men are invited to gather at the EYC to watch the Friday night Laser and FJ races. Around 7:30 PM as the women and youth depart, we will grill dinner. Bring meat for the grill, your preferred beverage, and cigars if you smoke them. You can also bring a side dish, but that’s optional…this is a Men’s event. For this event only, the EYC’s smoking prohibition is lifted on the patio and pier after 7:30 PM.
Sunday July 17 is the RICH HALL JUNIOR REGATTA. This regatta is sailed in Flying Juniors and takes place as part of the regular Sunday afternoon Flying Junior Races. The raffle for EYC members to draw EYC-owned boats is at 1:15 PM, the skippers meeting is at 1:30 PM and the races begin at 2:00 PM. Up to four races will be sailed. The Rich Hall Junior Regatta is limited to competitors who have not yet reached their 18th birthday. For more information see the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions at www.eyc.org/racing.
Remember to eat at least one Donation Creation pizza at The Wild Tomato in Fish Creek this month! For every Donation Creation sold in July, The Wild Tomato will donate $1 to the EYC.
Finally, thank you to EYC members Lisa and Paul Olson, and John Welch! Lisa and Paul donated a Wave Runner, trailer and boat lift. John donated a Flying Scot mainsail and jib which the EYC will be able to use in its lesson program.
