Merch sales correction and Lesson Registration Information

Correction:  The EYC Merchandise store will be open on Friday from 9:00am-1:00pm. 

EYC SAILING LESSON REGISTRATION IS OPEN

We will be using a phased approach to our lesson program openings:

  -Phase one- Week one (July 6-10) we will offer private lessons only limited to one or two participants per lesson. 

 -Phase two- Week two(July 13-17) we will offer 2 small group lessons in the morning and two in the afternoon. Possibly two in the evening.

 -Phase three- weeks three through five (July 20-August 7) we will take advanced registrations  for 2 small group lessons in the morning, afternoon and evening. At the discretion of the Education committee lesson offerings may expand to no more than 4 small group lessons in the morning, afternoon and possibly two in the evening. 

 

As stated in our COVID-19 Protocol we reserve the right to make changes to scheduled programs as needed.

Rules Reminder and Lessons , Boats and Merchandise updates

General Membership Rules:

The EYC supports the community efforts to decrease spread of COVID-19 in Door County, therefore, EYC Board has established the following:

All people on the EYC dock should follow the Wisconsin Department of Health guidelines and wear a face covering in public and maintain 6’ social distancing from anyone not in your household.

We recognize that this may seem overly cautious and unnecessary by some members as we are an all outdoor facility for the 2020 season. However, some club members may have health conditions placing them at higher risk or live in a multi-generational setting in Door County. Following the Wisconsin Department of Health guidelines will allow the EYC to lower the risk of exposure to COVID-19 for as many of our members as possible. 
When on the dock, wear a mask.
The Center for Disease Control recommends not wearing face coverings in water:
“Advise those wearing face coverings to not wear them in the water. Cloth face coverings can be difficult to breathe through when they’re wet.” In accordance with the CDC recommendation, masks are not required on the water.
The EYC Board thanks you in advance for your cooperation during this unprecedented summer. 

Sailing Lessons Opening

We have opened for private sailing lessons as of  7/6/2020. Small group lessons will be starting the week of July 13th.  Sailing registration information will be coming out Thursday.

Limited Member Use of Club Boats 2020:

EYC Flying Scots and 420s are available for member use by appointment only, subject to EYC Safety Policy and availability. You may make an appointment by​ emailing [email protected]. Please include the responsible skipper‘s name, boat type (Flying Scot or 420), date, requested start and end time, and number of passengers. Your appointment will be confirmed by EYC via email. Use of club boats is subject to weather, wind, water level, etc.   All people on club boats must sign the COVID-19 Waiver prior to the time of your reservation. For sailors under 18, the Parental Waiver is also required. 
The two kayaks will be available for use per the EYC Safety Policy at the Director’s discretion.
Note: Due to high water and Covid-19 precautions, club sailboats will not be available for member use whenever group lessons are occurring. Opti’s and lasers are not available for member use due to high water. Members are required to wear their own Coast Guard approved PFD’s.

EYC Merchandise Store Opening Friday!

EYC Store Opens this Friday, July 10th. 10am to 1pm! The outdoor store will be open every Friday.  Get your new 2020 Ephraim Regatta UV Tee’s, UV Neckies and a bunch more.
While visiting the store please wear your mask and maintain safe distance.
Due to COVID store volunteers and staff must wear a mask while managing the store.
Due to COVID customers are required to follow club rules for masks and distancing.
Due to COVID clothing items are not available to try on, they can be held up to check for size.
Due to COVID there are no returns accepted.
Credit Cards are preferred.

Season Opening Update

The news you have all been waiting for….

There has been much activity on the EYC dock! Much needed projects to protect our club house from high water levels are being addressed. Lifts are being installed and the dock has been power washed to remove slippery conditions.
The Board has been working diligently on a cautious plan of opening lessons to promote sailing education. We will be using a phased approach to opening beginning 7/6/2020. We are implementing Safety Policies, Protocol and Waivers in Response to COVID-19.
We ask that you be patient as we finalize our policies for the safety of you, our members.
The clubhouse will remain closed.

The Board has decided to offer the following outdoor activities for Club members this season:

– We will offer private lessons beginning Monday 7/6/2020!  Please email [email protected] to make your reservations for private lessons!
– We are working toward offering limited small group lessons (4 or less students) with a 4 to 1 student/instructor ratio. Details on registration to follow.
– We will offer member use of club boats on a reservation basis. Details to follow.
– The navigational training raft has be installed.
– The bleachers will not be utilized this year to keep the dock uncluttered due to high water issues.

 

Now that we will be having staff on the dock to teach sailing lessons, check out equipment and maintain the facilities, we ask that members follow the recommendations  from Door County Public Health.
– Masks or buffs must be worn when within 6 feet distance of others. 
– Hands should be washed frequently. Hands free hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout the club facilities. 
– Maintain social distancing.

Passing of Donald Hall

Donald  James Hall passed away peacefully on Sat. morning June 13, 2020.  Don had many fond memories of friends and sailing at the EYC.  The EYC extends their deepest sympathies to Peggy Hall and family.  Don Hall’s obituary can be found HERE

Missing your EYC instructors? 

We have the solution!  Although we aren’t having classes this season, we still want to connect.  We have several ways to do just that.  As the summer rolls on, plan on Kahoot quizzes, Zoom meet ups, virtual donut days and more!

It’s a big day as we are hosting our inaugural Virtual Regatta and Zoom Pre Race Social! Download the free Virtual Regatta Inshore app to join in on the excitement.  The app lets you participate in live virtual races. Virtual Regatta open to all EYC members 8 years and up.  EYC will be using the star class design.

Pro tip:  It’s highly recommended to download, log in, swipe through the docks to select your boat and practice before race day. It’s really that easy!
Let’s connect on Zoom  before the virtual regatta begins.  This is your chance socialize with other race participants and work out any last minute race details.  Dress in your best regatta gear to get race ready!

EYC Membership Directory

The beloved EYC membership directory is on its way to our members.
EYC can now add a directory mishap to its list of challenges for summer 2020. We discovered that the printer used the 2019 template to print this year’s directory.  We have corrected the error and the printer is diligently reprinting this year’s edition.  All members will receive the correct 2020 Membership Directory in the mail shortly.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and like everyone else, we keep trying to make lemonade out of the lemons we receive.

Letter from the EYC Board

 Dear EYC Members,
We hope you and your family are safe and healthy. This summer is proving to be one for the history books due to COVID-19 and the high water level of Lake Michigan. Your EYC Board has been meeting frequently to discuss possibilities for this summer season. Saturday morning, at an engaged yet taxing meeting, together we made some of the hardest decisions concerning our club’s activities. The board concluded that the club is not able to manage the risk due to COVID-19 and the high water level. We made these difficult decisions with the safety of you, our valued members, students,  and staff as our top priority. 
At this time, we have canceled all social gatherings, including Bridge, Bunco, Junior Activities, Bratfest and First Mates events. We are holding off on a decision about the Commodore’s party. The clubhouse will be closed. As water conditions allow, the EYC dock will be open for private boat, kayak and stand up paddle slip rentals, and swimming for members only. We have made the wrenching decision to cancel all group sailing lessons. All series racing and all but one regatta have been canceled, as THERE WILL ALWAYS BE AN EPHRAIM REGATTA!  
The Board will meet again on Saturday, June 27 to re-evaluate the situation. As more information  becomes available, we seek to define ways for members to safely enjoy our beloved EYC this summer. We hope to offer members use of club owned boats, and possibly private lessons. We have chosen to remain flexible by adjusting our sails and to explore an alternate course rather than never put our sails up!
We will continue to communicate any changes in activities via our email blog post. We are working on creative ways for members, students and staff to keep our relationships strong. Stay tuned for further information on your club’s options to stay connected via Instagram, Facebook and ZOOM.

2020 Season Update

Dear EYC Members,

We hope you are all staying safe and healthy at home. These uncertain times of COVID-19 are stressful for all of us as we try to navigate through uncharted waters. At this time the board has canceled all member activities scheduled prior to June 22, 2020. The board will meet again May 23rd to determine if we are still able to meet the revised June 22nd opening date or if further schedule changes will be required. Any additional revisions to the schedule will be communicated on May 25th.

Although we all want nothing more than to return to our normal operations of offering a summer filled with sailing lessons, races, regattas and numerous social events, our priority is and will always be the safety of our members, staff and students. Please know that your board and a large group of volunteers are working to launch our season when we are assured we can do so in a safe manner.

Your treasured EYC Directories will be sent via mail this year. Take this opportunity to reach out to your EYC friends with a phone call or email. We are all in this together and now more than ever crave interaction with our friends and fellow members.

The 2020 EYC Aaron R Moore Sailing Scholarship Fundraiser Cancelled

The 2020 EYC Aaron R Moore Sailing Scholarship Fundraiser

has been Cancelled and Rescheduled for Saturday June 26, 2021

COVID-19 has impacted us all in so many ways. Our primary concern is for the health and well
being of our members and the people and community we love and serve.

Given the recent recommendations, we have decided to cancel our June 26, 2020 Scholarship
Fundraiser to be held at NorthernHaus. This was not an easy decision to make, but we feel it to
be in the best interest of both our cherished supporters and the community at large. We
appreciate your understanding.

This summer will look very different for all of us, but especially our Door County businesses.
We cannot in good faith ask them for auction donations, which make up a good portion of our
fundraiser revenue. We ask you, our members and friends, to please support them this summer
as you are best able.

We are happy to announce that the Fundraiser has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 26,
2021, (exactly one year later), at NorthernHaus in Sister Bay. Mark your calendars for the 2021
Gala! We look forward to seeing you in your party clothes ready to celebrate together!

As we are all navigating through these challenging times, please know the Board of Directors is monitoring the ever changing COVID-19 situation.
