This week at the EYC July 18-27

In addition to all the usual sailing, swimming and socializing, here’s what’s happening at the EYC this week:

MEN’S NIGHT ON THE DOCK is Friday, July 18.  EYC Men are invited to arrive in time to sail in (or watch) the evening 420 races.  As the women and juniors depart after the races, EYC Men will remain to enjoy various grilled meats, liquid refreshments, and cigars (all BYO).  The EYC’s no-smoking rule is lifted for the duration of this event, outdoors only.

The annual RICH HALL JUNIOR REGATTA will take place on Saturday and Sunday, July 19-20, in Laser Radials and 420s.  Competitors must be at least 12 years old and not older than 17.  The drawing for the use of an EYC-owned boat is at 1:00 PM on Saturday, and races start at 2:15 PM.  The first race on Sunday starts at 9:00 AM.  There is a free awards picnic for competitors and parents after the racing, around noon on Sunday.  The EYC will provide burgers, brats, hot dogs and soft drinks.  There is no fee to compete in the Rich Hall Junior Regatta.  For more information see the Notice of Race at www.eyc.org/racing

Because of the Rich Hall Junior Regatta, the LASER RACES normally scheduled for the afternoons of Saturday July 19 and Sunday July 20 will not be held.  Also, the OPTIMIST RACES normally scheduled for the morning of Sunday, July 20 will be held instead in the afternoon (1:00 PM boat draw, 2:00 PM first start).

The WEDNESDAY JUNIOR ACTIVITY on July 23 will be “EYC’s Got Talent!” at the EYC.  Share your gift, like singing, dancing, skateboard, magic tricks, or musical instruments…or surprise us! Please provide your own equipment; a microphone will be provided. Warm-up and preview from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM.   Parents are encouraged to attend beginning at 6:00 PM. All acts must be family friendly. Dessert will be served after the winners are announced.  Wednesday Junior Activities are limited to participants who have finished first grade. The THURSDAY TEEN ACTIVITY on July 24 will be games at Johnson Park in Sister Bay from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.  Meet at Johnson Park; bring cash for go-carts, batting cages, jumpy house and video games. The DEADLINE FOR QUALIFIED EYC MEMBERS TO ENTER THE DRAWING to use an EYC-owned Flying Scot in the Ephraim Regatta is 5:00 PM on Friday, July 25.  You must have an EYC Skipper’s License to enter this drawing. To see the list of persons holding a Skipper’s License, go to www.eyc.org/member-info.  To enter the drawing, send an e-mail to [email protected] by 5:00 PM on July 25 stating your name and that you wish to enter the drawing to skipper an EYC-owned Flying Scot in the Ephraim Regatta.  Drawing winners will be notified of the boat and sails they drew, by e-mail not later than July 26.

The rescheduled FYR BAL REGATTA will take place as part of the normal Saturday Flying Scot races on July 26.  Drawing for qualified members to use an EYC-owned Scot at 9:00 AM, first race at 10:00 AM.

The EYC’s FLYING SCOT FLEET 44 WILL MEET at noon on Saturday, July 26, at the EYC.  All EYC Flying Scot sailors, and persons interested in improving our Flying Scot fleet, are invited to attend, regardless of whether you own a Flying Scot.  Pizza will be served!  The meeting will also include a debrief of that morning’s Fyr Bal Regatta. The EPHRAIM OPTIMIST REGATTA will take place on Saturday and Sunday, July 26-27, for juniors who have not yet reached their 16th birthday by July 1, 2014.  The drawing for the use of an EYC-owned Optimist is at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, and races start at 2:00 P.M.  The first race on Sunday starts at 10:00 A.M. and the regatta should be completed by around noon.

The DEADLINE TO ENROLL IN LESSON SESSION E is noon on Sunday, July 27.  Session E lessons are offered in both the morning and the afternoon, Monday through Friday, from July 28 through August 8. For more information about EYC sailing lessons, and to enroll, go to www.eyc.org/lessons

The DEADLINE TO ENROLL IN ADULT BEGINNER LESSONS is noon on Sunday, July 27.  The EYC offers a one-week adult beginner group lesson from July 28 through August 1, each afternoon from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM.  Didn’t you always want to learn to sail?  Well, you are a member of a yacht club, so now you can! The EARLY REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR THE EPHRAIM REGATTA is July 27.  Register by that date in order to receive your $10 early registration discount.
