An American Sailing Story

In the 1979 Fastnet Race, a force 10 Atlantic storm struck the fleet. Five yachts were sunk, another 19 abandoned. Only 86 of 303 yachts finished. Fifteen sailors and three rescuers lost their lives.

The yacht Tenacious, skippered by Ted Turner, rounded Fastnet Rock in time to run before the storm back to the finish, and won the race.  Gary Jobson was one of Turner’s crew.
