EYC Racing Update and Schedule Changes

The EYC’s racing season is off to a great start, with lots of participation and lots of wind!  Results for the Fyr Bal regatta and series races are available at www.eyc.org/2010-race-results

Racing is so popular this year that sometimes we have more racers wanting to use EYC boats than we have EYC boats!  In order to ensure allocation of EYC-owned boats which is fair to everyone who wants to race, from now on the EYC will conduct a boat draw before every EYC series race and regatta.  The draw will take place 45 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the first race.  You do not have to sign up in advance for the draw; just show up 45 minutes in advance of the first race and let the EYC staff know that you want to skipper, so that you are included in the draw.  (Exception:  the Ephraim Regatta draw will be conducted in advance and separately.  Stay tuned for more details.)    Persons drawing a boat will be entitled to use that boat for the entire day of series races, or for the entire regatta.  The EYC will no longer allocate racing boats by “round robin” or “boat rotation”, due to logistical and timing difficulties.  As always, if there are not enough EYC-owned boats for all members and staff who wish to race, members who are not staff will take priority over staff.

Please note, sailors wishing to sail EYC Flying Scots must have a “Skipper’s Permit”.   For information on obtaining one, see a staff member.

The Family Regatta, which was originally scheduled for Saturday July 3, was cancelled due to dangerously high winds.  The Family Regatta has been rescheduled for Saturday July 10, when it will take place as part of the regular Flying Scot Saturday series races.  Any boat racing in the July 10 Saturday Flying Scot series races, with siblings, a parent and child, or a grandparent and grandchild on board, is eligible for Family Regatta awards.  Parents and grandparents, this is a great excuse to get out of the water with the kids on a sailboat!

The Optimist Regatta and Saturday Optimist series races originally scheduled for Saturday, July 10 have been rescheduled for Sunday, July 11 with a 10:00 AM skippers meeting, 10:30 AM start.  The FJ and Laser races originally scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday, July 11 are rescheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, July 10.   For more information on the Optimist Regatta see the Notice of Race located at www.eyc.org/racing
