Recapturing the America’s Cup

Gary Jobson was tactician on Courageous in 1977 when she defended the America’s Cup, defeating Australia 4-0.  Here’s a shot of Gary celebrating as skipper Ted Turner takes a bow.

Six year later, the America’s Cup was won by a foreign yacht for the first time in its history, when Australia II, with her radical winged keel, beat Dennis Connor’s Liberty 4-3.

In 1987 Connor traveled to Australia and reclaimed the Cup in dramatic fashion in the brutal high winds of Freemantle, in a match which made broadcasting history.  Gary Jobson was there as ESPN’s lead commentator, and won a Cable Ace Award for his coverage.

Gary has been covering the Cup ever since.  Want to hear more?  Register now for the EYC’s Dinner with Gary Jobson on July 13 http://eycgaryjobson.eventbrite.com/
