Here’s what’s happening at the EYC this week, in addition to the the usual sailing, races, lessons, ping pong, bridge, bunco, yoga, swimming, sunning, and socializing with friends.
A few volunteers are still needed to work one-hour shifts at the Regatta Welcome Party, Friday August 5. Anyone working a volunteer shift gets free admission (otherwise $12). If interested in volunteering, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
The WEDNESDAY JUNIOR AND TEEN ACTIVITY on July 27 will be a visit to the American Folklore Theater to see “Bing! The Cherry Musical.” Tickets are $5 up to age 12, $8 ages 13 – 18, $19 adults. ADVANCE SIGN UP IS REQUIRED for this event. Sign up deadline is 5:00 PM Monday July 25. Sign up on the poster at the EYC. If you sign up, the EYC will purchase a ticket for you, so your sign-up is your committment to pay for that ticket. Meet at EYC at 5:00 PM. Tickets will be distributed at the EYC. Bring cash for your ticket and extra cash if you plan to purchase a snack. Parent drivers are needed; parents who drive should plan to pay for a ticket too. Parent drivers should also sign up on the poster at the EYC. Pickup will be at the EYC at 8:00 PM. This event is open to all EYC juniors who have finished 1st grade and older, and all EYC teens. The THURSDAY TEEN ACTIVITY on July 28 will be a powerboat trip and picnic dinner. Teens will meet at the EYC at 5:00 PM and board powerboats provided and skippered by adult EYC members. We will travel to Nicolet Bay, Horseshoe Island or Chamber’s Island, depending on the weather. Bring your own picnic dinner including drinks. Grills may not be available so don’t bring things which must be cooked. Wear a swimsuit, bring a towel, and bring layered clothing appropriate for riding in open powerboats in cool evening temperatures. Participants are required to bring their own PFD and to wear it while underway. Pickup will be at the EYC at 8:30 PM. Sign up on the sheet at the EYC. EYC teen events are limited to those who have completed 8th grade. The LASER REGATTA which was tentatively scheduled for July 30 will not be held because nobody volunteered to organize the event. Optimist races will be held as regularly scheduled the afternoon of Saturday, July 30. Laser and Flying Junior races will be held as regularly scheduled on the afternoon of Sunday, July 31.
EYC members Rich and Prudy Hall will give a multimedia presentation about their recent TRIP TO ANTARCTICA, on Sunday July 31 at 7:00 PM at the EYC. This program is suitable for all ages who are capable of sitting through a 30 to 45 minute presentation. There will be penguins! An informal BYO cookout will precede the presentation.
The FINAL GROUP SAILING LESSON SESSION OF 2011 begins Monday, August 1. The deadline to sign up for group sailing lessons for this session is noon, Sunday, July 31. For more information and to sign up, go to www.eyc.org/lessons.
