First Mates Breakfast/Coffee Monday at 9!
Please join the EYC First Mates (that’s us ladies) for coffee and breakfast treats upstairs at EYC on Monday, June 12th 9am (or after you listen to pre-session lesson speeches when you drop your children for the first week of lessons). If you have a special breakfast treat you would like to share, please bring it along. We will have time to reconnect after the winter and get to know new members. We will look at the calendar for June and early July and give everyone a short update on what we have planned for another wonderful summer on the dock!
And while you are at it, put these dates on your calendar:
- Monday July 10th 9AM: First Mates coffee
- Thursday July 13th 6 PM First Mates Potluck, Ephraim Village Hall.
Please join us! First Mates events are a fantastic opportunity to meet other women and find out what EYC has to offer this summer! We are relying more on computer sign up for volunteer opportunity, so the First Mate’s coffees will be more of a social hour than a volunteer fair!
Lockers and Slips. Get ’em while they last!
Lockers for rent
Lockers are available for rent by club members in the EYC clubhouse this summer. Five “Medium” lockers (34″ x 12″ x 16″) are available for the season for $60, plus tax. Ten “Large” lockers (34″ x 14″ x 16″) are available at $75, plus tax. The locker rental period runs from Monday, May 31 until 9:00 AM on Saturday, September 2. All lockers are offered on a first-come first-served basis. Members provide their own locks. Reserve your locker here: Locker Rental
Dry slips available
The EYC has a variety of dry slips available for rent by club members including: Flying Scot ($500 – new lower price), Laser on rack ($100), Laser, Sunfish, 420 or Optimist on trailer or dolly ($400), Optimist on pile ($100), Windsurfer, paddleboard, and kayak on rack ($100), plus tax. The seasonal slip rental period runs from Monday, May 31, until Friday, September 29, except that Windsurfer, paddleboard, kayak, Optimist (on pile), and laser (on rack) rental periods end at 9:00 AM on Saturday, September 2. Reserve your slip here: Slip Rental
A friendly reminder that locks and slips may not be assigned or sublet. Also, the EYC, at its discretion, may request you to remove your boat from the dock for major regattas, such as the Ephraim Regatta, if your boat is not being utilized for the event, in order to help facilitate the event.

Summer Classes are Filling at EYC
April showers bring May flowers . . . and thoughts of summer! Now is the time to have a look at the 2017 Lesson Schedule and see what’s on offer. We have a wide variety of classes from the traditional two week classes to a Beginner class which meets all day for one week. The popular Women’s Class is back and will be offered throughout the summer. Adventure Sailing is always a great option for visiting friends and relatives to take together. Powerboat Skills can help both youngsters and adults learn how to confidently handle a powerboat. Intro to Lasers and Opti Racing are great options for younger sailors eager to improve on the race course. Last, but not least, Bobby Collins will be leading the Laser Clinic on July 6 & 7. It is open to youth and adults. Please visit www.eyc.org/lessons for many details and a link to registration.
As always, feel free to contact [email protected] with any questions. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Nudge to renew your EYC membership…
For those who have already renewed, Gold Stars For You!
If you haven’t renewed . . .
Here’s the link so you can do it now. (Thank you!). http://eycwi.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=0&club_id=524404
And now a message from our sponsors:
Did you know your 2016 EYC membership expires at the end of May? The Ephraim Yacht Club dues are kept at an affordable rate because of our large, dedicated membership. Your annual dues help with expenses such as clubhouse maintenance, crane repairs, insurance, and equipment purchases.
Thinking about taking a year “off”?
Not sure if you want to renew this year but perhaps next? By continually renewing your annual membership, you forego the reactivation fee if your membership lapses. Taking a year “off” means paying a reactivation-initiation fee.
Are you having difficulty renewing?
Please email [email protected] and Jodi or Lisa will contact you to assist with the process.
EYC Membership Renewal Is Going On Now
Time to renew your EYC membership: “Everybody’s doing it”
Thus far, two thirds of our membership has already renewed. (Are you feeling the peer pressure?) If you haven’t yet, now is the time. Click on this renewal link to Club Express and use your login/password. Click on the red “renew” and follow the steps. Your renewal is complete when you pay with your credit card. Club Express will send you a confirmation email within minutes.
If you need help with this process, please send an email to membership volunteers: Lisa Gifford and Jodi Hoyerman [email protected]
Student Memberships
All sailing students need to be members. If you are not a club member, and your child will be sailing with us, please contact Jodi Hoyerman at [email protected] for information on purchasing a student membership. The process is similar to last year but with a new discount code to bypass the initiation fee. Please keep in mind, that student memberships have limited benefits. If you are considering a family membership this year, please contact Jodi with any questions.
The Printed Directory
It takes many volunteer hours to edit and organize the directory information. Thank you to Sue Zingsheim who has published our club directory for many years and is training a new volunteer group to take over. Please renew your membership by April 1st if you want your name in the printed directory (and of course we know that you do).

Aaron R. Moore Scholarship Fundraiser a Success!
Irish eyes were certainly smiling on Saturday evening, March 11, as we hosted the 5th annual EYC Aaron R. Moore Sailing Scholarship Fundraiser. A kilt-clad bag piper piped a greeting to all as they entered, and the amazing Chicago Irish Band played music throughout the evening. Tables were set with gold chargers atop genuine “old sod” place mats with live shamrock and hydrangea centerpieces and shamrock folded napkins.
Guests dined on smoked salmon, crab cakes, and pear bruschetta appetizers, two Irish salads, traditional corned beef and cabbage, pan roasted cod with cider cream and mussels, roasted leg of lamb on a bed of root vegetables and various flavored mousse cups for dessert. There were a few Guinness or Harps to wet one’s whistle, along with any other drink your heart desired.
The group was a little smaller this year with about 60 people attending, but all had a great time dancing, viewing the 56 auction items and 11 raffle baskets. While all is not tallied yet, we will to be able to provide additional sailing scholarships to the boys and girls of Door County this summer.
This event couldn’t take place without the help of many. A very special thank you to Adam and Barb Moore for sponsoring the Bag Piper, the Chicago Irish Band and the Irish decorations. Thank you to our wonderful EYC girls, Sophie and Melanie Tasker, for doing an outstanding job of selling $400.00 worth of raffle tickets! A big thank you to all our EYC members for their generous in-kind donations for the auction: Dick and Claire Bierman, Keith and Christine Bridenhagen, Ron Litterst, Adam and Barb Moore, Rob and Sherry Moore, Steve Sauter, Di Taillon and Nan Zimdars.
Thank you to all who made cash donations to the scholarship fund, attended the event and bid on auction items. There are not enough words to express our gratitude.
And, to Jack O’Rourke for being everyone’s favorite Irishman (He really is Irish! Who would have thought!)
!t’s not too late to make a cash donation to the scholarship fund for this year’s sailing season to help keep the kids on the water. Donations are accepted all year long and can be made to EYC-ARM Sailing Scholarship Fund and sent to EYC at PO Box 331 Ephraimn, WI 54211. See you on the Dock!
Special THANK YOU to the Moores:
Many thanks to Sherry and Rob Moore, and Barb and Adam Moore who just hosted the 5th Annual Aaron R. Moore Scholarship Fundraiser in Lake Forest, Illinois. Over the past four years, this event has raised $105,000 and awarded 158 total scholarships to year-round residents of Door County who are unable to afford sailing lessons at the EYC. The EYC is grateful to the Moores’ ongoing commitment to our sailing program and our local residents.
