Passing of Sue Christensen
Long-time EYC member and supporter, Suzanne Christensen passed away on August 24, 2022. We extend our deepest condolences to Sue’s family and friends. A link to Sue’s obituary can be found here Sue Christensen

Serving Dishes from Commodore’s
There are several unclaimed serving dishes from the Commodore’s party. If one of these dishes is yours, please contact Lisa Forsman for pick-up.
The sun is setting over the bluff and many of our members/staff have headed back to their “winter” homes. Members can still head down to the dock for swimming, paddle boarding and kayaking. Additionally, Bridge is still meeting during the week at the clubhouse. Private boat owners can set sail from the dock, however, no EYC boats are available at this time.
Join the FUN! Adult Scavenger Hunt!
The Ephraim Yacht Club and Ephraim Historical Foundation invite members to attend an Adult Mixer Photo Scavenger Hunt. Meet new friends then team up to test your knowledge of Ephraim trivia! Tickets are $10 per person. Proceeds benefit both the EYC and EHF.
Arrive at the Anderson Barn by 6:00 PM to check-in for the event. Organizers will assign teams of 5 people. Volunteer to be a designated team driver!
The challenge begins at 6:30 p.m. sharp! Teams re-group at the EYC to have answers scored. BYOB. Share tall tales while organizers tally results. Creative answers earn bonus points! Prizes go to the top two teams!

Friday August, 12th is the last Pop-up shop on the dock for the 2022 season. We will be on the dock from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You know you need some EYC gear to represent during the off season. We will also have a pop-up during Commodore’s Party, although with a limited range of items.

We had a great weekend of good wind and nice sailing for the 117th Regatta. Please join us this Saturday (August 6th) from 6:00p.m.- 9:00 p.m. for a night of great food, great drinks, and great conversation! The party will be held at Maxwelton Braes Lodge located at 7680 WI-57, Bailey’s Harbor, WI 54202. Flavorful Great Lakes Barbecue will be catering the event, so come hungry! Beer and select soft drinks will be provided with your ticket purchase; however, a cash bar will be provided for other options. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Children ages 0-5 eat free, 6-11 are $10 and 12+ are $20. Mix and mingle on the patio, exchange regatta stories and meet-up with friends old and new.

Parking information for the Ephraim Regatta Party
Parking is available in front of the building, on the road in front of the building, and in the grass on the west side of the building by the tennis courts. Parking is not allowed in front of the condos or in the golf course clubhouse parking lot. Entrance to the party will be located on the East side of the building. Below is a diagram to show parking areas and where the entrance to the party is located.
Ephraim Regatta
The EYC will be hosting the 117th Ephraim Regatta this Saturday and Sunday. The EYC still has boats available if you are looking to race! We are also still looking for one more strong volunteer to help with mark set. No sailing knowledge is necessary to volunteer! If this sounds like you, please email [email protected].
Please note that no Club Races will be held this weekend on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Thursday Morning Open Bridge Play starts this Thursday, July 28th and runs through September. It is at 9:30 a.m. at the clubhouse.
Joani Lewis Memorial Sail and Social this Saturday
The first annual Joani Lewis Memorial Sail and Social is this Saturday, July 30th starting at 12:30 p.m.. Join us on a Flying Scot (Joani’s favorite boat) for an afternoon sail followed by a wine and cheese social on the dock. All members welcome whether you are a seasoned sailer or don’t know your bowline for your bow line! Please bring a life jacket and wear close toed shoes.

Ephraim Regatta party is open to all members, racers, and friends! The party will be held at Maxwelton Braes on the back patio and inside if the weather doesn’t cooperate. We will have beer and soft drinks available for free as well as a cash bar for other drinks and wine. The food this year will be catered by Great Lakes BBQ and we will have smoked pulled pork and smoked chicken along with mac and cheese, potato salad, baked beans, potato salad, and coleslaw. Come on out visit with friends and hear tales of the racing.

Joani Lewis Memorial Sail and Social
We will be holding our first Joani Lewis Memorial Sail and Social on Saturday, July 30. All EYC members are invited to go out on Flying Scots after the Family Regatta. Enjoy the breeze and the wind in your hair. Afternoon sail followed by a wine and cheese social on the dock.
Memorial Service for Anne Glabe
Long time EYC Member Anne Glabe passed away October 6th, 2021. A memorial Service will be held for her at the Ephraim Moravian Church on Sunday, July 31st at 3:30 pm.
First Mates Potluck
The EYC “first mates” enjoyed some food, fun and fellowship last Thursday at the Ephraim Village Hall. A huge thank you to Debbie Brightbill, Karen Bierman, and Barb Hambleton for coordinating this event. They did a wonderful job transforming the village hall. Thanks to all who brought wonderful dishes, a great times was had by all!

A free Racing Clinic will be held on Monday, July 18th. The EYC in conjunction with SBYC(Sturgeon Bay Yacht club) is hosting a team racing clinic. The course will be conducted in 420’s and will be from 5:00p.m.- 8:30 pm. Pizza for the racers after the clinic will be provided by EYC. Spots are limited to 8 participants from EYC. Calling all Dogs
We like to keep the dock extra friendly, so just a gentle reminder, Dogs please keep your Masters under control while at the EYC. If they make a mess on the dock, clean it up. Please do not let them pee on the Life Ring, there is a grassy area and bathrooms located on the upper level of the clubhouse. If there are a lot of people or food around please keep them on a leash. It is your job to keep your Master under control.
Calling all fans of Sunsets and Potlucks
Friday night on the dock is not just for racers (or families of racers). BYOB and join other EYC members for cocktails on the bleachers. As the racing comes to a close, we gather around the EYC grills to enjoy dinner and wrap up the week with a gorgeous Door County Sunset. Bring a main dish for yourself/family and a side dish to share with the other members.

July 4th Ice Cream Social Wrap-Up
Last week, intrepid EYC members braved a rainy night to celebrate the 4th with ice cream sundaes. A special thanks to Melissa Little and Jane Kennedy for coordinating this favorite annual family event and to Steve and Jessica Sauter for donating the ice cream. A shout out to Claudia Werner for providing the waffle bowls and for helping with set-up. Thank-you also to scoopers Tava Wilson, Ty Little, and Jenny & Lucy Peterson for helping us continue this sweet tradition on the dock.

Take a look at the RS Tera
Hey Hey, check out the newest boat to the fleet! The RS Tera is a fun, sporty, fast and super cool single hander boat. EYC sailing students enrolled in the Beginner 2 and Intermediate classes are loving how easy it is to rig and how fun it is to sail. Its wide and comfortable seats allow the sailors to feel safe, and its light and easy to right after capsizing! The RS Tera has the unique distinction of being recognized as the World’s “Learn To Sail” boat with the emphasis on FUN! You can easily spot the RS Tera with it’s orange and white sails in Eagle Harbor!
Sailors signed up for lessons from July 11- 15th, please report to the dock ready to roll. Real-time weather information — including wind speed and direction — is now available remotely from a new weather station on the EYC dock. To gain access, download the Ambient Weather app to a smartphone. Next, create a personal account. When asked about linking to an existing station, enter or select “eycweatherstation.” Information is updated within seconds at the clubhouse and every few minutes remotely. Joanie Lewis Memorial Services
The Family of Joanie Lewis have invited the EYC community to her Celebration of Life on July 9th at Alexander’s in Fish Creek from 1:00p.m. -4:00 pm.
Additionally, All are invited to a very special musical celebration in memory of our very dear friend, Joan Lewis. Colin Welford, Pastor Dawn and others will pay tribute to Joanie on Sunday, July 10, at 2 p.m at the Ephraim Moravian Church.
Former instructors are you coming “home” for the July 4th weekend? See if you still have what it takes, all former instructors are eligible to race. This regatta will be held in conjunction with our Saturday Flying Scot Series at 10:00 a.m. Up to 3 races will be held and awards will be given for 1st-3rd places.
July 4th Ice Cream Social
Don’t forget to include the EYC Ice Cream social as part of your July 4th activities. This event is open to all EYC members, family and guests and starts at 7:00 p.m at the clubhouse. Ice Cream Scoopers(1/2 hour shifts) needed, sign up HERE . Membership Directory Update
Waiting for your EYC Directory? If you renewed your membership or joined the EYC prior to April 15th, you will receive an EYC directory in the mail. Your EYC Directory was mailed to your winter address in May. It was mailed by bulk mail, so snail mail is especially apropos in this case. If snail mail is too slow and you would like an EYC Directory, there is a limited number of EYC Directories available at the Clubhouse for $10. Please see Spencer Olson to purchase one. Ephraim Regatta Flying Scot Clinic
On Friday, August 5th, 2022 (10:30 am – 4:30 pm) David Ames and PJ Buehler the reigning Flying Scot North American and Midwinter champions will be presenting a clinic at the EYC. They have been sailing together for over 20 years, during which time they have won multiple national championships, the Youth World Championship and made a bid for the Olympics. This free hands on clinic is open to 117th Ephraim Regatta participants, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, the Sauter and Dischner Famlies. ARM Gala Wrap-up
Jay Gatsby’s yellow Rolls-Royce was last seen heading south toward the bright lights of Milwaukee and Chicago late Saturday night. A couple of flappers were patiently sitting in the back of a barrel back Chris-Craft launch awaiting the skipper who went to fetch a bottle of champagne for the return trip. And so the party at Anahuac closed as the lights in the house dimmed and the stars rose in the sky.
A very big thank you to all our EYC family of friends who attended, donated and helped in our 9th annual ARM-EYC Sailing Scholarship Fundraiser. Special thanks our host, Rob Cowles, who graciously shared beautiful Anahuac with us for the perfect venue. Thanks to the EYC staff who professionally valeted cars and sold raffle tickets. The evening was great fun and the spectacular venue truly transported us to a golden time gone by.Surrounded by friends who generously participated in the raffle and auction, it looks like another successful year that will allow us to send more kids to sea.

Pancake Breakfast Wrap-up
Many thanks to the volunteers who made the 2022 Fyr Bal Pancake Breakfast a success! We served over 240 people and raised nearly $1,300 for the EYC scholarship fund. Susie Gebhardt, Mardi Glenn and Steve & Joan Anderson greeted eaters at the door. Fabian Waleffe & Bob Richter grilled 50 lbs of sausage links. The Dibble team (Kevin, Bennett & Packard), Matt Goode and Dan Mielke flipped pancakes until we ran out of batter! Karen Bierman, Julie Watkins, Hal & Tammy Whitacre, Deanna Peterson, Jennifer Peterson & kids, Heather Mandel, Lisa Forsman, Tim Aik, and LaDona & Jim Rowings helped keep things running smoothly in the kitchen & at the tables. And when we ran out of strawberries & chocolate chips, Andrea Goode made a dash to the Pig for more! Kudos everyone!!
