This week at the EYC June 14 – 22

The EYC continues to ramp up its activities this week as racing goes into full swing.  And, the EYC has an exciting schedule of events for the June 21 Fyr Bal Festival.  Here’s what’s going on:

 

The EYC’s SUMMER SERIES RACING BEGINS the morning of Saturday, June 14.  Flying Scots Saturday morning, Lasers Saturday afternoon, Optimists (all ages 15 and under) Sunday morning, and both Lasers and 420s Sunday afternoon. 

 

The DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR SESSION B LESSONS is noon on Sunday, June 15. Session B lessons take place in the mornings, Monday through Friday, June 16-27.  For more information, and to register, go to www.eyc.org/lessons

 

The first FIRST MATES COFFEE starts at 9:00 A.M. on Monday, June 16.  If you are female and an EYC member, then you are a First Mate! Please attend this get-together to help plan for the EYC’s various 2014 summer events, and to visit and socialize with your First Mate pals.

 

The MONDAY FLYING SCOT SERIES begins June 16.  Boat draw 5:00 P.M., first warning signal 6:00 P.M.

 

Monday evening BUNCO starts at 7:00 P.M. on June 16.  If you don’t know how much fun Bunco is, you owe it to yourself to try it at least once.

 

WEEKDAY OPTIMIST RACES begin Tuesday, June 17.  Boat draw 5:00 P.M., first warning signal 6:00 P.M.  Optimist races takes place at the same time on Thursday evenings, too.  Blue Fleet (age 11 and under) and Red Fleet (age 12-15) race at the same time on both Tuesday and Thursdays.  We have purchased six new Optimists this year, so our fleet now numbers 18, enough to get everyone out on the water at the same time!

 

FRIDAY 420 RACES begin June 20.  Boat draw 5:00 P.M., first warning signal 6:00 P.M.

 

Saturday, June 21 is EPHRAIM’S FYR BAL FESTIVAL.  The EYC has a full calendar of events planned:

 

7:30 A.M. – 10:30 A.M. EYC PANCAKE BREAKFAST at the Ephraim Village Hall.  Please come and bring your family and friends.  This event is open to the public and is a fundraiser for EYC sailing lesson scholarships.  This inexpensive breakfast features all you can eat pancakes and sausage plus juice and coffee for only $8 adults and $5 children 12 and under.

 

9:00 A.M.  Boat draw for the FYR BAL REGATTA in Flying Scots.  First warning signal 10:00 A.M.

 

2:00 P.M. – 4:30 P.M. – OPEN HOUSE AND FREE SAILBOAT RIDES for prospective members.  If you have a friend who is thinking of joining the EYC, bring them to the EYC for a short tour and slide show, followed by a sailboat ride in one of the EYC’s Flying Scots, skippered by an EYC instructor.

 

6:00 P.M. – FYR BAL FAMILY COOKOUT.  The EYC will grill up delicious meats.  Bring your own side dishes (and maybe some to share) and beverages.  After the cookout, we will watch as the Fyr Bal bonfires are lit, followed by fireworks.  Another FREE EYC social event!

 

EYC HOURS: Beginning Monday, June 16, through Sunday August 10, the EYC will be open and staffed from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. seven days a week, and on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings from 5:00 P.M. until evening races are completed; EXCEPT that from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on June 16 and June 18, all EYC staff will be engaged in training and no staff will be available to assist members.  If you need assistance on June 16 or 18, please contact the EYC staff prior to 1:00 P.M. During the afternoons of June 16 and 18, the use of the EYC’s Trophy Room is reserved for staff training.
