Upcoming Flying Scot Regattas

Traveling to regattas at other clubs is fun and is the best way to improve your racing skills by sailing against top competition.

EYC Flying Scot racers should mark their calendars for several upcoming events:

On August 24-26, the Clinton Lake Sailing Association (Clinton Lake, IL) and Flying Scot Fleet 135 will host the GLOW II REGATTA.  This fun and casual regatta features parties Friday and Saturday evening, camping on the grounds, and takes place near the winter homes of many EYC members.  For more information and to preregister, go to http://www.fssa.com/content/glow-regatta.  Questions?  Contact Eric Bussell [email protected] phone 217-377-0661.

On September 14-16, the Carlyle Sailing Association (Carlyle, IL) will host its 42nd annual WHALE OF A SAIL REGATTA.  This multi-class regatta should feature a large fleet of Flying Scots.  Includes up to seven races, plus Saturday night buffet and live band Saturday, breakfast Saturday and Sunday, refreshments all weekend.  The Notice of Race is at http://www.csa-sailing.org/aLibrary/WhaleNOR-Sail2012.pdf.  Questions?  Contact Tom Wyman (314) 753-9183 [email protected].

Each winter, quite a few EYC members take their Flying Scots south for some warm weather racing.  In 2013, the FLYING SCOT MIDWINTER CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA will be hosted by the Sarasota Sailing Squadron (Sarasota, FL) on March 11-15.   If you have never sailed at Sarasota before, it’s wonderful: clean, tropical waters; consistent afternoon sea breezes; a beautiful location with a spacious, breezy pavilion; and nearby beaches and shopping,  The MIDWINTER WARM UP REGATTA will be hosted by Davis Island Yacht Club (Tampa, FL) on March 9-10.  Keep an eye on www.fssa.com for more information about each of these fun and highly competitive regattas.
