Rich Hall Junior Regatta Sunday July 17 / Optimist Regatta Results

The Rich Hall Junior Regatta will take place on the afternoon of Sunday, July 17.  This regatta is sailed in Flying Juniors and takes place as part of the regular Sunday afternoon Flying Junior Races.  The raffle for EYC members to draw EYC-owned boats is at 1:15 PM, the skippers meeting is at 1:30 PM and the races begin at 2:00 PM.   Up to four races will be sailed.  The Rich Hall Junior Regatta is limited to competitors who have not yet reached their 18th birthday.  For more information see the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions at www.eyc.org/racing.

Parents, in deciding whether to encourage your child to skipper or crew in the Rich Hall Junior Regatta, consider your child’s skill level, experience, strength, and the expected wind velocity.  The EYC encourages students who are in lesson Level 3 or higher to skipper Flying Juniors, but in windier conditions, smaller EYC juniors, even if at the recommended lesson level, should not compete.  EYC students do not receive basic racing instruction in Flying Juniors until Level 3.

The Rich Hall Junior Regatta is named in honor of former EYC instructor and current EYC member Rich Hall, who has touched the lives of many EYC members with his gentle and expert style of sailing instruction.

Also, congratulations to all the Optimist Regatta participants.  All five races were held in windy conditions and each race was won by a different EYC junior!  First was Will Gheorghita with 16 points, second was Charlie Sidles with 16 points, third was Gretchen Pearson with 19 points, fourth was Sydney Richter with 25 points, and fifth was Tommy Papenthien with 27 points.  For a list of all competitors and complete results, see www.eyc.org/racing.  Also thanks to the EYC’ volunteers who made the Optimist Regatta happen: Regatta Chairman Bjorn Hooper, Publicity head Jeanne Papenthien, and Principal Race Officer John Peterson.
